AFRICAN DIASPORA MARKETPLACE III launched at Consulate of Cabo Verde
(Saturday, December 13)- The Consulate General and the Embassy of Cabo Verde in the United States, in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development and Western Union launched the African Diaspora Marketplace (ADM), a business plan competition, designed to support the entrepreneurial spirit of the African Diasporas in the United States and to promote the economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, by facilitating Diaspora Direct Investment in viable small and medium enterprises.
African Diaspora Partnership is open to all Cape-Verdean American citizens and permanent residents. Following a rigorous selection process, 10-20 winning business will be awarded matching grants between $50.000 to $100.000 each, based on the quality and proposed management of the business idea, prospects for sustainability, results orientation and capacity to leverage Diaspora resources.
The event, which was held in a room filled to capacity, was hosted by Consul General Pedro Carvalho and Ambassador Jose Luis Rocha who were joined by Jeffrey L. Jackson, USAID Senior Private Sector Advisor; David J. Saunders African Diaspora Marketplace Outreach Coordinator Consultant, Steve Garrity , Northeast at Western Union Financial Services; Small Business Administration and Minority Business Development Agency representatives.
