The representative of the Cape Verdean community in the United States of America – USA, Cassandra Teixeira, age 17, a native of Fogo Island, was the winner of the sixth edition of the Festival “Revelation Voices of the Diaspora” (port. Revelação Vozes da Diáspora),” held Saturday, 26, in the National Assembly in Praia, Cabo Verde.
With the songs, “Regaço”, originally sung by Mayra Andrade and “If I ain’t got you” by Alicia Keys, Cassandra Teixeira rocked the stage, captivating the judges and the large crowd that watched the show.
In second place was the representative of Cape Verde Edvânia Dias, age 16, a native of the Isle of Maio and in third place was Neusa Semedo, age 15, the representative of the Cape Verdean community in England.
Revelation Voices of the Diaspora, which this year took place in Cape Verde, was attended by eight representatives of the Cape Verdean diaspora: Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, Ivory Coast, Portugal, France, England, United States of America, Argentina, and a representative of Cape Verde.
This year the promoter of the event, Fundação Infância Feliz (FIF) , joined the Ministry of Communities (MDC) and the Ministry of Culture(MC) for the production of this event aimed at promoting music,strengthen relations friendship and solidarity among CapeVerdeans around the world.
Given that the event is held annually in the country of the respective winner, the next edition of the Festival will take place in 2015 in the USA.
This contest also has a partnership with the Cape Verdean diaspora associations that play a key role in finding candidates, mediating contacts with FIF, and in some cases, contributing to their travel expenses.
Note: the first edition of this event took place in 2009 and was held in Cape Verde, followed by Portugal, USA, France and Luxembourg.
