The Cape Verdean American Film Festival, a film festival that aims to publicize Cape Verde and its film-makers, will take place on May 23 and 24 in Washington, D.C.
The event will be hosted by Emmy nominated actor Tim Reid, Michael Beach and Kelly Perine. The musical groups Mendes Brothers, and social activist Nuala Cabral will also be featured in this festival.
According to its website, www.cvaff.com , The CVAFF will showcase Independent Films from Cape Verde, Brazil and West Africa as well as American Films from all ethnicities. Believing that education is key, The CVAFF will also be home to all Cape Verdean Americans out there who come from mixed families, don’t speak the language (Kriolu) nor know that much about their own culture but wish to learn more. The CVAFF strives on being the home for all Cape Verdean filmmakers and artist looking to showcase their work to the masses. Along with Cape Verdean musical artist and special famous Cape Verdean Honoree’s we aim to target a wide audience of moviegoers.
Rashad Roulhac, the son of a Cape Verdean and an American, is the face of the festival. Rashad I. J. Roulhac has worked in the Film & Entertainment Industry for over 16 years. A graduate of the prestigious Valencia Film Program in Orlando, Fl Rashad has worked on countless Music Videos, Independent & Feature Films. After working in Los Angeles and Park City, Utah with The Slamdunk & The Sundance Film Festival Rashad returned to the East coast and has been working for ABCNEWS, “Good Morning America”.
The festival aims to be a forum for the meeting of the ” creators of the Seventh Art “. Is is also a space for showcases and seminars, with Professors, Special Guest Speakers and Female Film Directors, on the participation of WOMEN OF COLOR IN MEDIA. Discussion about empowering women will be led by Nuala Cabral, Marcy Depina, Lucy Coutiho, and Michelle Cruz.
The deadline for film submission is March 30th, 2014.
