Nelson J. DaMoura, a freelance photographer, of Rhodes Street, Providence, died Wednesday, June 26th, at Roger Williams Medical Center.
Born in the Cape Verde Islands, he was the son of the late Antonio Lopes DaMoura and Alice S. Goncalves of Providence. He was a resident of the city for 33 years where he graduated from Hope High School and was a liberal arts student of University of Rhode Island.
Nelson Damoura, a local celebrity in Rhode Island’s entertainment community, was founder and President of the popular website HOTINRI.com. The site features photos of people at local nightclubs, restaurants, concerts and event happenings. A special creation of Nelson’s is the the “Ear Club” section with over 4,000 photos in which he photographed revelers while pulling their ears.
Besides his mother, he is survived by brothers, Joaquim Lopes DaSilva, Luis Lopes and Jose DaMoura, all of Providence, and sisters, Maria DaSilva of Cape Verde Islands, Ana Tavares, Ernestina Morera, Carmen DaMoura, Nelida DaMoura, Sandra DaMoura, and Maria DaMoura, all of Providence. He was the brother of the late Tony DaMoura.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 29th, at 9am in Saint Michael’s Church, 80 Oxford Street, Providence, RI.
